Science, Technology, Education and Policy for Europe – step4EU is a new way of thinking about European innovation policy. OPI as a member of step4EU takes an active part in promoting its goals. Next step4EU meeting will be held in May in Warsaw.
Step4EU is an Europe-wide, interdisciplinary and independent network. It is composed of leading policy researchers seeking to foster a new understanding of policies in the spheres of science, technology and higher education that contributes to securing the long-term competitiveness of Europe as a whole and to narrowing intra-European disparities in prosperity.
The common identity of the network rests on the conviction that education, science, technology and innovation constitute the foundation of Europe’s future in the global knowledge economy. Specifically, step4EU aims at contributing to evidence-based policy-making fostering economicand social cohesion within EU member states and strengthening Europe’s position in global competition.
During the meetings step4EU members discuss issues emerging in EU science policy and present recommendations of changes, based on research outcomes. The Warsaw Policy Research Workshop (May 2015) introduces the series of step4EU policy briefs, together with a plan for new observation activities, informed participatory debates and the engagement of scientists in policy action in different member states. The meeting follows the Leipzig Policy Research Workshop, which took place in November 2014, and the initial event of step4EU in Bergamo in April 2014, as well as step4EU founding ideas, as described in Bergamo Statement of Purposes.
